How Live Radar Works
Understand the technology behind Locomoo's real-time radar and how it helps you discover people nearby.
What is Live Radar?
Locomoo's Live Radar is a real-time discovery system that shows you nearby users on an interactive circular interface. Unlike traditional dating apps that show static profiles, the radar updates every 2 seconds, giving you a dynamic view of who's around you right now.
The Radar Interface
When you open the radar, you'll see a circular display with your position at the center. Other users appear as dots positioned according to their actual distance and direction from you. The closer they are, the closer their dot appears to the center.
- Distance rings - Concentric circles showing distance markers (100m, 500m, 1km, etc.)
- User dots - Each dot represents a nearby user with color-coding for interest matches
- Pulse animation - New users entering your range trigger a pulse effect
- Profile previews - Tap any dot to see a quick profile preview
How Location Detection Works
The radar uses your device's GPS combined with our proprietary algorithm to calculate distances with precision. Here's the technical flow:
- Your device sends encrypted GPS coordinates to our servers
- Our algorithm calculates distances to other online users
- Users within your set radius are displayed on your radar
- Positions update every 2 seconds for real-time accuracy
Customizing Your Radar Range
You can adjust your discovery radius from 100 meters to 5 kilometers based on your preferences:
- 100m - 500m - Best for crowded venues like concerts, cafes, or campus areas
- 500m - 1km - Ideal for neighborhoods and local discovery
- 1km - 5km - Great for city-wide discovery in less dense areas
Privacy Protections
Your privacy is paramount. The radar includes several protections:
- Ghost Mode - Become completely invisible while still viewing the radar
- Private Zones - Set areas where your location shows as "Private"
- Approximate mode - Show only approximate distance instead of precise location
- Auto-delete - Location history is automatically deleted after 24 hours
Battery Optimization
We've optimized the radar to minimize battery drain. Location updates are batched efficiently, and the radar automatically reduces update frequency when you're stationary or the app is in the background.
